Make a Difference! Be an Art Docent!
Horizon Elementary School recognizes the important need for art education in our child's development. To further this development, the PTA Art Docent Program provides students with monthly art lessons and hands-on art projects taught by a team of dedicated parents and community volunteers.
Art Docents teach lessons in their assigned classroom about an artist, artistic movement, or art principle/concept. The students then create their own work of art based on the art lesson they were given.
These lessons are linked to the Art Standards for Education by the State of Washington, and give our children the opportunity to learn and practice skills and behaviors that foster out-of-the-box thinking and creative problem solving.

Program GoalsProvide a creative and safe environment that allows all students to express themselves in ways that are most successful for them.
Retain a team of volunteer docents from the community as facilitators.
Leverage the State of Washington Art Standards for Education.
Expand children's ability to form definitions of their visual world.

Examine elements of art that the children can apply to their own creative endeavors.
Acquaint the children with varied media as a means of expression.
